About the Port Building Code Review Board
The Port Building Code Review Board ("PBCRB") is established under Section 105A of the Port of San Francisco Building Code. The PBCRB is the body authorized to hear and adjudicate appeals regarding code interpretations made by the Chief Harbor Engineer. Specifically, the PBCRB may hear appeals regarding (1) the granting, denial, suspension or revocation of any permit under the current edition of the Port of San Francisco Building, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Codes, (2) an order of the Chief Harbor Engineer involving construction methods, assemblies or materials or where safety is involved, and (3) an order of abatement or notice of violation issued by the Chief Harbor Engineer. The PBCRB may reverse the Chief Harbor Engineer's decision only upon a finding of error by the Chief Harbor Engineer. The PBCRB does not have authority to waive requirements of the building code.
Members of the Port Building Code Review Board
The PBCRB consists of five City staff members, who are selected by the Port Executive Director and approved by the Port Commission. Each member serves a maximum term of three years. The PBCRB members have technical skills and/or non-technical construction working experience related to construction. The Board consists of:

All appeals shall be addressed in writing to the Chief Harbor Engineer, Port of San Francisco, Pier 1, the Embarcadero, San Francisco, CA 94111 and post marked within 15 days after the notice was given of the decision being appealed.
